How to open files in Office apps on Terminal SErvers

Overview

When using Terminal Servers (farm.calgiant.com), Office files (Excel, Word) must be opened through the Office 365 web apps instead of the locally installed applications. This guide explains how to open files correctly.

Steps to Open Office Files

Step 1: Save the File

• Save the file to your Desktop or Documents folder on the Terminal Server.

Step 2: Launch Office 365

• Double-click the Office365 shortcut on the desktop.
• Sign in with your company credentials.

Step 3: Open Excel or Word

• From the Office 365 app list, select Excel (or Word).

Step 4: Open a Blank Document

• Click New Blank Workbook (or Document).

Step 5: Open Your File

• Go to File → Open → Browse This Device.
• Select your saved file and click Open.
• The file will open in a new browser tab.

Additional Notes

• Files cannot be opened directly in the desktop version of Office on Terminal Servers.
• Always use the Office 365 web apps for compatibility and security.
