Overview
Users may report that their iPhone is not receiving notifications from Microsoft applications (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, etc.) but still receives notifications for text messages and phone calls. This issue is typically caused by corrupted notification settings or the app losing background permissions.
Symptoms
- No notifications from Microsoft apps (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, etc.).
- Notifications work for:
- Phone calls
- SMS/iMessage
- Other non-Microsoft apps
- App notifications appear enabled in iOS settings but still do not work.
Cause
Microsoft app notification settings or background processes may become corrupted after:
- iOS updates
- Microsoft app updates
- Device backup restores
Resolution
Remove and reinstall the affected Microsoft apps. This resets notification permissions and re-registers the device with Microsoft’s notification services.
Steps to Resolve
Step 1: Delete the Affected Microsoft Apps
- Press and hold the app icon.
- Tap Remove App → Delete App.
Step 2: Restart the iPhone
- Hold the power button.
- Slide to power off.
- Turn the phone back on.
Step 3: Reinstall Microsoft Apps
- Open the App Store.
- Search for the app (Outlook, Teams, etc.).
- Download and sign in again.
Step 4: Verify Notification Settings
- Go to Settings → Notifications.
- Select the Microsoft app.
- Ensure Allow Notifications is ON.
- Enable:
- Lock Screen
- Notification Center
- Banners
- For Outlook: Ensure Background App Refresh is ON under Settings → General → Background App Refresh.
Step 5: Test
- Send a test message or calendar invite to confirm notifications appear.
Additional Notes
- Reinstalling the app does not delete Outlook mail or Teams data; everything resyncs after signing in.
- If the issue returns, check if Focus Mode, Do Not Disturb, or Low Power Mode is limiting background activity.
