Issue

A user reports that Chrome is not loading websites despite having an active internet connection. Other browsers and network-based applications may also be affected.

Symptoms

  • Chrome fails to load websites.

  • Other browsers may experience similar issues.

  • Network connectivity appears normal (no issues with Wi-Fi or Ethernet).

Resolution

Step 1: Flush DNS and Reset IP Configuration

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

  2. Type the following commands one at a time, pressing Enter after each:

    • ipconfig /flushdns – Clears the DNS cache to remove any corrupt or outdated entries.

    • ipconfig /release – Releases the current IP address.

    • ipconfig /renew – Requests a new IP address from the DHCP server.

  3. Test Chrome to see if websites load correctly.

    • If the issue persists, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Uninstall Cisco VPN

  1. Open Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.

  2. Find Cisco VPN in the list of installed programs.

  3. Right-click and select Uninstall.

  4. Restart the computer (if prompted)

Root Cause

The issue was traced to a failed or interrupted Cisco VPN update, which prevented proper network configuration and caused connectivity issues in Chrome.

Outcome

After uninstalling the Cisco VPN, websites began loading correctly in Chrome. If the Cisco VPN is required, reinstall it from a clean source to avoid future conflicts.

Additional Notes

  • If reinstalling the Cisco VPN, ensure that the update completes without interruptions.

  • If the issue recurs after reinstalling, check firewall settings and VPN compatibility with Chrome.
