Users may experience issues where printing to the Adobe PDF printer gets stuck in the print queue or fails to generate a PDF. This issue can often be resolved by reinstalling the Adobe PDF printer.

Symptoms

  • Print jobs to the Adobe PDF printer remain in queue and do not complete.

  • The printer shows as Offline or Not Responding.

  • PDF files are not generated when printing from applications such as Microsoft Excel or Word.

Cause

The issue occurs when the Adobe PDF printer driver or port becomes corrupted or disconnected. Reinstalling the Adobe PDF printer restores proper functionality.

Resolution

Step 1: Remove the Existing Adobe PDF Printer

  1. Press Windows + R, type control printers, and press Enter.

  2. Right-click Adobe PDF and select Remove device.

  3. Confirm the removal when prompted.

Step 2: Reinstall the Adobe PDF Printer

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat.

  2. Go to Help → Repair Installation.

    • This will reinstall the Adobe PDF printer automatically.

    • If prompted, allow administrative permissions.

  3. Wait for the repair process to complete.

Alternative Manual Method (if needed):

  1. In Devices and Printers, click Add a printer.

  2. Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings, then click Next.

  3. Choose Use an existing port and select:

    Documents\*.pdf (Adobe PDF Port)

If this port does not exist, select Create a new port → Local Port, and enter:

    C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Documents\*.pdf
  4. Click Have Disk, then browse to:

    C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Acrobat <version>\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF
  5. Select AdobePDF.inf, click Open → OK, and choose the newest Adobe PDF Converter driver.

  6. Complete the installation wizard and name the printer Adobe PDF.

Step 3: Reboot the Computer

After reinstalling, restart your computer to finalize the driver and service updates.

Step 4: Test Printing

  1. Open any document (e.g., an Excel file).

  2. Select File → Print → Adobe PDF.

  3. Confirm that the PDF generates successfully and that no print queue errors occur.
